Your expertise and involvement benefits today’s CofC
When successful College of Charleston alumni enthusiastically serve and support their alma mater, their engagement brings strength and value to the institution. Whether you help our Admissions Office recruit students, speak to a class or student organization, join an alumni chapter or mentor current students, you'll walk away with pride knowing that you are truly making a difference in the lives of our College of Charleston students.
See below for volunteer and mentor programs, and call your Alumni Office to get signed up!
Reunions Volunteers
Do you have an upcoming reunion and want to volunteer but worry that you don't have enough time? No worries...volunteering as a Reunion Coordinator is simple, yet rewarding! Whether you prefer to help coordinate your reunion class' scholarship, boost your class year's attendance by contacting people or coordinate reunion details, there is something for everyone. Alumni & Student Career Network
Are you looking for a meaningful way to connect with your alma mater? The Career Center would like to invite your participation in the College of Charleston Alumni & Student Career Network group on LinkedIn! The Alumni & Student Career Network group is designed to provide College of Charleston students and alumni seeking career advice and direction with the opportunity to contact professionals like you.
Your participation simply involves a willingness to share advice and information regarding careers, employers, geographic regions, and the job search process in general. You have complete control in choosing your level of involvement, such as contributing to questions posted for discussion, communicating with students/alumni individually via LinkedIn messages or email (informational interviews), providing an opportunity for shadowing at your place of business, providing referrals to business associates or professional associations, etc.
As a member of the Alumni & Student Career Network group, you can post articles, ask questions and comment on group discussions. You may also wish to use LinkedIn to connect with business contacts such as industry colleagues, potential business partners and employers to further your own career.
Not familiar with LinkedIn? Review their New User Starter Guide or their Grad Guide video for an introduction and steps to create your profile. The basic workings of LinkedIn – connecting with other individuals and joining the group – are free. LinkedIn does provide some expanded services for a fee.
For questions about the group, visit the Alumni & Student Career Network information page or contact the Career Center.
Office Assistance
Roll-up your sleeves and get to work! Help the Alumni staff with day-to-day office duties or event-specific projects. To volunteer, please contact the Alumni Office at (843) 953-5630 or email alumni@cofc.edu.
Alumni Admissions Program
This program was born from the idea that alumni make the best ambassadors! The Alumni Admissions Program helps maintain our tradition of academic excellence by encouraging academically talented students to apply and attend the College. As a member of the Alumni Admissions Program you'll provide our prospective students some personal attention and encouragement that can make the difference between a student choosing the College of Charleston or another institution. Who knows CofC better than the people that were once students? Providing your perspective as an alumnus is an invaluable resource! Contact the Alumni Office at (843) 953-5630 or email alumni@cofc.edu.
Attorney Assistance Program
Join those who are making a profound difference in the lives of our students and staff members through participation in the CofC Attorney Assistance Program. This valuable service has been a part of our alumni and friends of the College outreach effort since 1999 providing assistance to those who, for a number of personal or financial reasons, may never receive legal services. Participation is available through the general listing, a specialized Office of Victim Services (formerly C.A.R.E.) listing or both.
Attorneys listed on our general assistance program are asked to be available during normal working hours for a one-hour consultation on a pro bono basis. If representation is to be undertaken, participating attorneys do so on a pro bono, or reduced fee basis, as may be indicated by the case and client's financial ability. The availability of this program component is advertised on the CofC Attorney Assistance Program webpage.
If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity or need additional information, contact Robin F. LaRocque in the Office of Victim Services at larocquer@cofc.edu or (843)953-2273.
