Alumni Award of Honor

Celebrating our alumni leaders

The Alumni Award of Honor is the highest honor awarded by the College of Charleston Alumni Association. It is presented to those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Association or to the College. This was formerly known as the Honorary Life Membership Award. Both alumni and friends of the College are eligible for this award.
  

2012 Alumna of Honor

Marie M. Land

Marie Land has served on the College of Charleston Board of Trustees since 1988, which makes her one of the Board’s longest-serving members.  Recently she completed a term as Chair of the Board of Trustees, the first woman to hold this position in the history of the College.  She has been a staunch advocate for the College during her years on the Board of Trustees and has advocated for the College in her community, in the General Assembly and in the numerous civic organizations in which she is involved.  She has played a key role in nurturing the relationship between the College of Charleston and the Spoleto Board of which she is a member.

Though not a graduate of the College, two of her children are College of Charleston graduates:  Ricci Land Welch’ 92 and Ceth Land ‘ 94.  Her husband, Senator John Land has been by her side during her years of service to the College of Charleston supporting her efforts.  The Alumni Association wishes to recognize Marie Land’s 24 years of devoted service to the College of Charleston with our highest award.
