H. Biemann Othersen, Jr. was presented the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles. Dr. Othersen is professor emeritus of pediatric surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina and former chief of the division of pediatric surgery.


Jimmy Carroll won the Isle of Palms mayoral election in November. He had previously served as a councilman and is a Broker Associate with Carroll Realty, Inc., on Isle of Palms, SC.


Diane Gilruth Barker of Daniel Island, SC, won the International Tennis Federation's women's 60 world singles championship in Miami Beach, FL, in November. Mrs. Barker has won seven world individual titles.


Steve Warner is Vice President of Global Competitiveness at the Charleston Regional Development Alliance. Mr. Warner was a panelist for the Charleston Power Breakfast Series in December, which touched on the data and context behind Charleston's regional transformation.


Sylleste Helms Davis, of Moncks Corner, SC, has been named as one of The Post and Courier's 20 to Know for 2017 in their NOLO (North in the Lowcountry) magazine. Representative Davis currently serves District 100 in South Carolina and is working with Berkeley County's Habitat for Humanity and Grace Episcopal Church to build a community center in a low-income area of Moncks Corner.


Richard Graham is owner of Spartanburg Periodontics. Dr. Graham is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the American College of Dentists, and lives in Spartanburg, SC.


Legare Clement is Scout Executive and Chief Executive Officer at the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Clement and wife, Kathryn Varner Clement '89, reside in Ridgeville, SC.

Daniel Streuber is a cybersecurity executive for Cisco Systems in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Streuber manages Cisco's cybersecurity business, and was recently awarded the "Cisco Pioneer Award" given annually for the most significant engineering development in the company. He was part of a team responsible for the development and launch of Cisco's first cloud services router, as well as other security solutions.


Carson Mencken recently represented the College of Charleston at the presidential inauguration at Baylor University in Waco, TX. Dr. Carson is Professor and Chair of the sociology department at Baylor, and received his Ph.D from Louisiana State University in 1994.


John Martin is Storm Water Manager for the South Carolina Department of Transportation in Columbia. Mr. Martin earned his master's in earth and environmental resource management from the University of South Carolina.


Stacy Smith Cannon has been named the 2017-18 Chairperson of the Trident United Way Women United Steering Committee. Women United is an engagement network of philanthropic women leaders committed to improving education, financial stability, and health in the greater Charleston community. Mrs. Cannon is Senior Vice President and investment consultant at South State Investment Services in Charleston, SC.


Susan Moorhead Zimmerman, of Clemson, SC, earned her MBA in entrepreneurship and innovation from Clemson University in August 2017.


Inness Gilbert Hancock, of Bedford, NY, is a Landscape Artist and has been awarded an Artist-in-Residence Program grant by the U.S. Department of the Interior to travel this fall to California where she will paint in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and Yosemite National Park for five weeks, making stops in Napa Valley, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles. In 2018, she will turn her attention to another artist in residence program in Assisi, Italy.

Kevin Kurtz (MAT), of Rochester, NY, has a new nonfiction children's book published, titled Living Things and Nonliving Things. The book compares and contrasts living things and helps children distinguish between living and nonliving things in the world.


Jeff Lynn and his wife, Haley, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Lucas Crawford Lynn, on October 12, 2017. Mr. Lynn is Vice President of Dillon Tractor and Implement Company in Dillon, SC.


Christal Brunson Eady, of Fairburn, GA, is a Retail Loan Processor at The Money Source, Inc., a mortgage lending company headquartered in Melville, NY. She and her husband, Jerecho, have two daughters: Sanaa and Arielle.

Marie Majarais is Executive Director of Jasmine Road in Greenville, SC, the first nonprofit/social enterprise offering long-term, holistic residential programs and employment for sexually exploited and trafficked women in South Carolina.

Sadie Nius is Vice President of Operations at FSC Interactive, an online marketing agency in New Orleans.


Wes Eason is Chief Operating Officer and Director of Sales at his family-owned Sunburst Trout Farms in Waynesville, NC. The company was founded in 1948, and was the first commercial trout farm in the South. Mr. Eason believes aquafarming can provide a viable, long-term solution to feeding the planet.

Ryan Mau is Head Baseball Coach at Longwood University in Farmville, VA. He and his wife, Leslie Burnett Mau '00, have two children: Grace and Gabriel.

Courtney Page Sarre is Director of The Footlight Players' December production of "Annie". Mrs. Sarre is the co-founder of Musical Theater Center in Mount Pleasant, SC, and has been directing children for more than 20 years.


Darrell Farewell recently became a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) through The Institute of Internal Auditors. Mr. Farewell is assistant Vice President and Senior Internal Auditor for BB&T in Winston-Salem, NC. He obtained his M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from Waynesburg University.


Tabby Boyajian is an astronomer on the faculty at Louisiana State University and had a star named in her honor after researching a highly unusual light curve emitting from the star. Dr. Boyajian earned her masters and doctoral degrees from Georgia State University and currently resides in Baton Rouge, LA.

Erica James is a psychology Professor at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, and is coach of the university's dance and cheer teams. Dr. James is conducting research to determine how minority students utilize mental health services.

Yolanda Milledge, of Columbia, SC, is a Human Resources Coordinator at Verizon. Ms. Milledge earned her M.B.A. and master's in human resources management from Webster University in 2006.

Marie Morgan is Lead GED Instructor at the workforce development center at SC Works Charleston. Ms. Morgan has been instructing adult students for the past 17 years and focuses on small group activities and individualized instruction.

Annie Page-Karjian and husband, Paul, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Charles Levon Karjian, on August 8, 2017. Dr. Page-Karjian earned her D.V.M. from the University of Georgia and lives in Port St. Lucie, FL.


Ellie LaBar Schwarz, of Asheville, NC, is celebrating 10 years as an Agent and Entertainment Consultant with EastCoast Entertainment (ECE), the nation's oldest and largest full service entertainment agency. Mrs. Schwarz has received numerous industry awards over the years including ECE Lifetime Sales Exceeding $1 Million, 2016 Entertainment Company of the Year from the Appalachian chapter of the National Association of Catering and Events (NACE), and 2011 Event Professional of the Year from Charlotte NACE.


Kedra Ford married Michael Carter on August 19, 2017. Mrs. Carter has been recently promoted to Program Coordinator I at the South Carolina Department of Social Services in Columbia, SC. The couple resides in Florence, SC.

Adriane Kennedy Hardy is a Health and Fitness Coach at Adriane Hardy Wellness, located in North Myrtle Beach, SC. She has two sons: Trevor and Royce.

Paige Howells Platt is a Realtor for Keller Williams Realty in Liberty Township, Ohio.

Scott Principi and his wife, Nina, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Isla Principi, on October 21, 2017. Mr. Principi is head trader at Wyser-Pratte Management Co., Inc. The family resides in Norwalk, CT.


Christian Black is owner of Black Ops Logistics, a third party logistics company located in Chattanooga, TN. He has two children: Talon Matthew and Avery Josephine.

Joseph Garcia, Senior Associate Attorney at Buist Byars & Taylor LLC in Charleston, SC, has been selected to Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Charleston Class of 2018. Mr. Garcia earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2009.

David Linaburg and Isabelle Selby '08 of Brooklyn, NY, welcomed their second son, Sheppard Gordon Linaburg, on September 6, 2017. Mr. Linaburg, a guitarist, has been touring with J. Cole on the "4 Your Eyez Only" tour. They just wrapped up the U.S. and European tour, and head to Australia and New Zealand next.

Adam Paul was recently promoted to Chief Executive Officer at 7 Communications, LLC. in Greensboro, NC. Mr. Paul is co-founder of "Reelin For Research" which raises money for the NC Children's Promise to support cancer research.

Claude Pope, of Raleigh, NC, is Owner of the resort and golf clothing and accessories brand, Bald Head Blues. Mr. Pope started the company in 2014, and the company's clothing items can be found in over 180 retail stores and golf pro shops.


David Stasiukaitis has been named as one of The Post and Courier's 20 to Know for 2017 in their NOLO (North of the Lowcountry) magazine. Mr. Stasiukaitis is CEO of Low Country Case & Millwork in Ladson, SC. The company was awarded the Blue Ribbon in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Small Business category, and specializes in high-end custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, and state-of-the-art medical/institutional casework.

Maura Whitman is earning her master's degree in health management from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and expects to graduate in 2020.


Kate Tiller (M.P.A. '10) has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services at the College of Charleston. She also serves on the advisory board for the College's master of public administration program.


Derrick Apple (M.S.) has joined Jarrard, Nowell & Russell, LLC, a Charleston-based accounting and business advisory firm as partner.

Susan Kamenar is Senior Director of Partnerships and Further Community at National Geographic in Washington, D.C.

Erin Kee and Conor McGovern were married on October 21, 2017. Mrs. McGovern is associate director, hunger initiatives for the National Council on Aging. The couple resides in Arlington, VA.

Joseph Newberry is an Occupational Safety Specialist at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, AK. He and his wife, Sinai, have two children: Nolan and Canela.

Phil Paradise and Mary Tyler Minus Paradise announce the birth of their daughter, Barbara Eloise Paradise, on October 20, 2017. Mr. Paradise is assistant district counsel for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Mary Tyler is a teacher for Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools. The Paradise family lives in Savannah, GA.

Sam Spence married Melissa Fried on October 14, 2017. Mr. Spence is web editor at Charleston City Paper.


Sarah Clark McLeod and her husband, Cliff, announce the birth of their daughter, Claire Harden McLeod, on August 26, 2017. The family, including big sister, Charlotte, resides in Quantico, VA.

Peter Newlin is President of Park Burger, a small, casual, family-friendly neighborhood restaurant chain in Denver. Mr. Newlin has recently opened Birdcall, a fast-casual restaurant which specializes in chicken sandwiches, salads, and more. Several additional Birdcall locations are planned for the Denver area.

Shelly Rosenberg is a credit balance specialist at DaVita Dialysis Center in Tacoma, WA.


Tristan Evans Richardson has joined WINGS for Kids as a Regional Programs Manager based in Charleston. Previously, Mrs. Richardson was a middle school teacher for Richland School District 2.

Claire Hite has joined Google as an Account Manager in New York City.


Coco DeNucci is pursuing her law degree in pharmaceutical patent law at Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, R.I., and expects to graduate in 2018.

Shea Diaz recently earned her J.D. from Georgetown University, passed the bar exam, and started her career as a Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. She works in the Environment and Natural Resources Division, doing environmental enforcement work.

Joanna Schnell has joined United By Blue (UBB) in Philadelphia as Director of Marketing and E-commerce. The sustainable outdoor apparel brand is known for its commitment to cleaning up the earth's oceans and waterways. For every product sold, UBB removes one pound of trash through company-organized clean-ups.


Cameron Hall has joined the law firm of Holland & Knight, located in Tampa, FL. Mr. Hall earned his J.D. from Stetson University College of Law, where he graduated first in his class. He focuses his practice on the acquisition, disposition, and leasing of commercial real estate.

Natalie Winkler of Athens, GA, married Scott Malone on June 7, 2015. The couple is proud to announce the birth of their son, Finn Malone, on October 16, 2017.

Morgan Richardson is a registered nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health in Red Bank, NJ.

Elyse Chubb Welch was elected to the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Commercial Multiple Listing Service. Mrs. Welch is a senior brokerage associate with the Retail Services Group of Colliers International in Charleston.


Morgan Cirillo relocated from Charleston, SC, to San Diego in September 2017. Ms. Cirillo is Marketing Director at Pacific Sotheby's International Realty, Scott-Finn & Associates in San Diego.

James Garilas is a Business Immigration Attorney at Ogletree Deakins Law Firm in Columbia, SC. Mr. Garilas earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2016.

Andrew Gunderson and Ashley Springs were married on October 7, 2017. Mr. Gunderson is Environmental Health Manager at the South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control and resides in Greenville, SC.

Rachel Kelley has joined the Charleston Parks Conservancy as Volunteer Coordinator.

Geoffrey Samuels is Assistant Vice President at SouthStar Capital in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Kirk Vitello recently presented at Disrupt HR, a high-energy idea forum held in Charleston, designed to inform and empower leaders, business owners, founders, and people in the human resources field. Mr. Vitello lives in Mount Pleasant, SC, and joined Dale Carnegie South Carolina in September as a Certified Trainer.

Karahn Washington is Chairman of the Small Business Council at the Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce. The council recently hosted Local Business Week for the communities of Clemson, Pendleton, Six Mile, and Central with banners for each of the towns participating.

Thomas Winstead and McCallie Jones '14 were married on July 15, 2017. McCallie is head women's soccer Coach at Emory & Henry College, and Thomas is a Project Manager at Colite International. The couple resides in Abingdon, VA.


Brett Clifton is an Analyst at Gartner, a leading research and advisory company. He works in the Arlington, VA, office.


Jason Lutz has been appointed as the new Director of Marketing and Communications at Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, NJ. He has also served as assistant coach to the school's varsity sailing team.

Hayden Smith is the Student Engagement Coordinator for the College of Charleston's School of Business.


Whitney Lane married John Billingsley on June 3, 2017. Mrs. Billingsley is an administrative assistant at the Medical University of South Carolina. The couple resides in Goose Creek, SC.

Hannah Roberts married Tyler Hastings on December 26, 2016. Mrs. Hastings is Systems Coordinator at SMC Distributors in Ladson, SC.

Gracie Moore has joined King and Society Real Estate in Charleston, SC.

Caroline Powell (M.B.A. '17), of Charleston, SC, joined True Blue Hospitality as Digital Marketing Manager. Ms. Powell has a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina.

Savannah Pugh is attending American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., in pursuit of her Juris Doctorate and expects to graduate in 2020.

Aili Vinson is studying for her master's degree in global medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and expects to graduate in 2018.
