September 2017


Harriet Molony Condon is a retired Principal from St. John's Catholic School in North Charleston, SC. Harriet is mother to nine children, 28 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.


Stephen Proctor is a retired high school Teacher of 16 years and is also a retired Psychiatric Nurse of 20 years. Stephen earned his M.A.T. from The Citadel in 1976 and his B.S. in nursing in 1986 from the Medical University of South Carolina.


Doug Bostick is Executive Director of the South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust, a nonprofit which has spent the past 25 years preserving South Carolina's historic battle sites.The group is focusing on the 250-plus Revolutionary War battles and skirmishes that occurred within the South Carolina state lines.


Ann Karesh Baker has joined Regions Mortgage as a Mortgage Loan Officer based in the downtown Charleston office. Ann has 36 years of banking and mortgage experience.


Ron Cooper has been appointed Director of the Honors Institute of the College of Central Florida in Ocala. He has taught philosophy at Central Florida since 1995. His newest novel, A Thousand Natural Shocks, will be released by Holiad Press in early 2018.


Chris Halter was promoted to full Professor of Education at the University of California San Diego. Chris earned his Ph.D. from the University of San Diego in 2006.

John Tisdale is featured in the new Discovery Channel documentary "First in Human," which reveals the real-life experiences of the doctors, patients and researchers of the National Institute of Health Clinical Center. John earned his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1990, and joined the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute in 1994. He is doing groundbreaking work involving sickle cell disease. John received the Pre-Medical Society's Outstanding Service Award in Medicine from the College of Charleston on 2011.


Maura Hogan served as the Charleston City Paper's overview critic for this year's Spoleto Festival USA. She was recently honored at the Association of Alternative Newsmedia conference where she took first place in the category of arts criticism for five of her arts articles. Maura is Director of Advancement Communications at the College of Charleston.


Jodi Westbrook Flowers is Practice Group Leader of Motley Rice LLC law firm's anti-terrorism and human rights practice group. Jodi earned her J.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1993 and practices in Mount Pleasant, S.C. She has received numerous awards for her work in the legal field. Most recently she was listed among the 2016 Trial Lawyers of the Year and the Best Lawyers in America from 2010-2017.


Edie Vardsveen Cusack will speak at the 2017 TEDxCharleston on October 18. Edie is a passionate advocate and educator who turns disabilities into opportunities. As the founder of the College of Charleston's REACH Program, she works with universities to build inclusive programs for young adults with mild intellectual disabilities.


Cathy Huggins Larose is Owner of Coldwell Banker Advantage in Southern Pines, NC. Cathy lives in Pinehurst, NC with her husband, Marcus, and two children, Jordan and Willie.

Sabrina Moore is a Senior Paralegal for Comcast Cable in Atlanta.


Quentin Goodwin is Managing Editor at London Stock Exchange Group, located in Fort Mill, SC. Quentin recently was inducted into the Distinguished Service Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., the highest honor given to a fraternity member.

Michelle Lilly Rotellini was named Executive Director of United Way of Southern West Virginia in July 2017.


Christiane Magann Farrell (M.P.A. '99) has been appointed to the position of Assistant Town Administrator for the Town of Mount Pleasant, SC. She brings nearly 18 years of municipal planning experience to one of the nation's fastest growing communities.

John O'Neill was honored as a Most Admired CEO in the commercial real estate category by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. John is Managing Principal for Cushman & Wakefield in Atlanta.

Scott Playford has joined EmergeOrtho in Jacksonville, NC as a Physician. He received his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina, and did his internship and residency in family medicine. He completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine and treats patients of all ages for sports, overuse, and work injuries.


Matthew Doane resides in Celebration, FL with his wife, Stephanie. Matthew earned his B.S. in nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1997 and his M.S. in nursing from East Tennessee State University in 2004.

Worthy Evans is a Communications Specialist at Q2Administrators, LLC in Columbia, SC. Worthy won the South Carolina Poetry Prize for his book, Green Revolver, and is published in several literary journals. His collage work has been shown in several shows and coffee shops in the Midlands.


Patrick Ford is Vice President of Ford's Gourmet Foods, a fouth generation family business based in Raleigh, NC. The company sells various marinades, nuts, and barbeque sauces, including their famous Bone Suckin' Sauce.

Calvin Gadsden has recently retired from the United States Marine Corps. His wife, Alma Martin '96, is pursuing a doctor of business administration from North Central University. The couple has three children: Kenya, currently a sophomore at the College, Calvin, and Charlotte.


Scott Crisp is one of seven teachers and principals from around the country to earn a prestigious U.S. Department of Education fellowship for a year-long program. Scott will maintain his duties as Principal of Jackson High School in Jackson, WY, as he collaborates with the Department of Education on policies that impact students and school communities.

Robert Fortson lives in Marathon, FL, and is a Real Estate Executive at the Marlin Bay Yacht Club.

Jeffrey Kerr joined Landmark Construction Company in Charleston as Director of Accounting. Jeffery is a certified public accountant and has over 20 years of financial management experience.


Angelina Ahrens was promoted to Associate Director of Major Gifts at Grinnell College. She has been working at Grinnell for the last two years after moving back to Iowa from Juneau, AK.

Tony Bevilacqua is the Principal of Crisfield Academy and High School in Crisfield, MD. He earned his M.A. in teaching from Virginia Commonwealth University and an M.A. in English from Salisbury University.

Janet Leese has managed the recording studios and broadcast TV studio for Starstruck Entertainment in Nashville, TN for 13 years. She is also involved in artist management and tour management, and works with 10 college interns per semester participating in music business programs.

Nina Marsh-Thomas has joined the College as the Assistant Director for Admissions, Volunteer Outreach. She will oversee the Cougar PAWWS (Parents and Alumni Working With Students) program, and assist with visitor services for admissions.


Jaime Gauthier Bettencourt is Senior Vice President of Premier Sales and Account Management at Mood Media in Charlotte, NC. Jaime has been with the company since 2010.

Blake Thornton is Owner and President of BTM Machinery, Inc., and has plans for a Southeastern sales center in Summerville, SC. The company buys, sells, and rents heavy equipment globally, and has added offices in Atlanta and Ghana, West Africa.


Darrell Farewell is Assistant Vice President, Senior Internal Auditor for BB&T in Winston-Salem, N.C. He obtained his M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from Waynesburg University.

Kyle Lourie and his wife, Heather, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Logan Lourie, on January 18, 2017. Kyle and his family reside in Roswell, GA.

Lucas McFadden is a TV news Anchor and Producer for CN2 News based in Rock Hill, SC. His show won an Emmy for Best Newscast in 2014. Lucas is also the co-host of WHRI's Palmetto Mornings radio station.

Sarah Piwinski (M.P.A. '15) has joined the Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative as Director of Data Management and Analysis. Sarah lives in Charleston.

Kristina Riegle married David Gram on April 5, 2017. Kristina is an Actor, Singer, and Voice Instructor at Expressions Music Academy in Troy, MI. She is also part-time Faculty in the department of theatre and dance at Wayne State University.


Jessica Jones Stone is the new Student Services Program Coordinator for International Education at the College of Charleston. Jessica received a master's degree in college counseling and student affairs from The Citadel.


Ebony Hilton-Buchholz has authored a children's book, Ava's Big Move, that demonstrates the power of positive thinking, supports the notion that all things end well, and celebrates the peace that is found in forming new relationships. Ebony is an Anesthesiologist at the Medical University of South Carolina and a past recipient of the Pre-Medical Society's Outstanding Service Award in Medicine.

Seth Layden is the Branch Manager at a newly-opened ABC Supply Co., Inc. in Burleson, TX. The company provides roofing, gutter, and other select exterior building products. Seth joined ABC Supply in 2012.

Tori Schallot lives in Mount Pleasant, SC, and is a member of the advisory board for the department of economics at the College. She is an IT Services Project Manager for a local IT solutions company called eGroup, she is also the Managing Partner for The Petoria Group, where she has launched and sold eight personal businesses focused on technology and provides consulting services for small businesses.

Abby Henry Walker is continuing to serve the nonprofit sector by recently accepting a full-time position as Grant Writing Manager at Palmetto Goodwill in North Charleston, SC.


Cortney Christmas Gehrke is the Interim Principal at Darlington High School in Darlington, SC. Cortney was previously the high school's Lead Assistant Principal and has been working for the Darlington County School District since 2005. Cortney earned an M.Ed. in educational leadership from American College of Education.

Scott Principi is Head Trader at Wyser-Pratte Management Co., Inc. Scott married Nina Potter on September 17, 2016, and the couple lives in Rowayton, CT.

Deana Goodwine Thomas is a Behavioral Interventionist at JusticeWorks Behavioral Health in Charleston, SC. She earned her M.A. from Webster University in clinical counseling and professional mental health in 2008.


Athan Barkoukis (M.A.) is Executive Director of Friends of Rookery Bay, located in Naples, FL.

Samantha Chapman has joined The Old Cigar Warehouse in Greenville, SC, as Venue Sales Manager. Samantha has more than seven years of experience in catering and venue sales focused on corporate events and meetings.

Michael Cody is Co-Founder and CEO of BareItAll Petfoods, a business that creates all-natural, limited ingredient dog treats that are environmentally friendly. The Chicago-based company won the American Choice Awards National Best Brand for Pet Nutrition in 2016 and is a finalist for the Eco-Excellence Awards Best Pet Treats 2017. Michael earned his M.B.A. in entrepreneurship and management from DePaul University in 2014.

Morgan Kaminski is the Executive Masters of Science in Leadership Program Manager at Brookings Executive Education in Washington, D.C.

Adam Paul is Chief Creative Officer at 7 Communications in Greensboro and Winston-Salem, NC. He is also the co-founder of "Reelin For Research" which raises money for the N.C. Children's Promise to support cancer research. Adam is a voting member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in the category of television production executives.

Emily Shalosky Shelley and husband, Neal, are proud parents of Abbott "Abe" Thomas Shelley, born on July 27, 2017 in Charleston, SC. Abe joins big sister, Annie.

Katherine Wolfe Wallace and Jason Wallace join big sister, Charlotte, in announcing the birth of Brawley Elizabeth on July 5, 2017. The Wallace family lives in Charlotte, NC.

Carla Washington was named the 2017-18 Teacher of the Year for Bryson Middle School in Simpsonville, SC. She is a physical education teacher and head coach for the girls' volleyball team. Carla was the Greenville County Schools Middle School Volleyball Region Coach of the Year for 2016-17. She earned her Ed.S. in administration and supervision from Clemson University in 2016, and her M.A.T. in physical education from The Citadel in 2009.


Ken Boggs is the proud grandfather of Elijah Berry, born on July 15, 2017. Ken is a Test and Evaluation Systems Administrator at KPS Government Contracting in North Charleston, SC. He and his wife, Rachel, live in Hanahan.

Shari Broomfield has joined Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Southern Coast Real Estate as an Agent based in Summerville, SC.

Hunter Lappen is a Client Advisor for BMW of Annapolis, MD.

Mercedes Pinckney Fabers has been appointed Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. A native of Ridgeville, S.C, Mercedes is the former assistant general counsel of the College of Charleston and was awarded her law degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law and her master of laws degree from St. Thomas University School of Law.

Sally King Benedict had her artwork featured at the Quogue Gallery in Quogue, NY, in August 2017. The exhibition was a generous sampling of Sally's versatility, featuring eight mixed-medium paintings, four ink drawings on paper, and a group of hand painted ceramic plates and platters. The focus of the gallery is modern and contemporary art created by emerging, established, and historically important artists.

Kris Stevenson is a Senior Project Manager of Design and Development for Integrated Play at Hasbro. Kris resides in North Kingstown, RI, with his wife, Jana, and two children, Claire and Colin.

Heather Yenco was promoted to Curator at New Hanover County's Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington, NC. She is responsible for the acquisition, conservation, preservation, and research of the museum's artifact collection. Heather earned a master's degree in museum studies from the University of Toronto.

Lisa Blasco Zobel, her husband, Travis, and big brother, Camden, are proud to announce the birth of Carter Hendrix Zobel on July 5, 2017. The Zobel family lives on Johns Island, SC.


Amanda Crocker Chapman and Brad Chapman are proud parents of Maryanna Grace Chapman, born on July 16, 2016. The family resides in Murrells Inlet, SC.

Jermaine Johnson and Evan McDonald Johnson '11 live in Columbia, SC. Jemaine traveled around the world as a professional basketball player. In 2015, he retired from basketball and is the founder and CEO of the non-profit organization, New Economic Beginnings Foundation, which partners with businesses, corporations, and volunteers to assist, train, and educate youth, veterans, and returning citizens to be productive and successful. He is completing his Ph.D. in organizational leadership at Northcentral University, and was recently appointed to the Richland County Recreation Commission Board. Evan is a Hospital Pharmacist at Palmetto Health Richland.

Gale Thompson recently completed her Ph.D. in English and creative writing at the University of Georgia, where she received the Robert West Award for outstanding graduate student as well as the Outstanding Teacher Award. Gale moved to Grand Rapids, MI, to take on a visiting assistant professorship at Grand Valley State University.


Laura Grantham Ortiz is an Archaeologist at Ecoplan Associates in Tucson, AZ. Laura earned her master's degree in classical archaeology from the University of Arizona in 2013.

Jill Wessinger Piers and DJ Piers welcomed their son, Sullivan Henry Piers, on July 17, 2017. The family resides in Rock Hill, SC.

Ali Titus (M.P.A.) is the Program Coordinator and Director for the Community Assistance Program at the College of Charleston. Ali most recently served as an Advocacy Manager with the Center for Women in Charleston.

Zach Winchester has joined Synovus Securities, Inc. in downtown Charleston as a Financial Consultant. Zach offers an individualized approach to wealth management, including comprehensive financial planning.


Devin Black has become a Certified Addictions Counselor through the South Carolina Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. She is completing her master's degree in social work at the University of South Carolina and expects to graduate in May 2018.

Johnny Horsley is a Biological Science Technician for the National Park Service, in Las Cruces, NM.

Aly Pane is the Event Coordinator for the NBA team, Memphis Grizzlies. Aly earned her master's degree in sport and entertainment management from the University of South Carolina in December 2014.

Lauren Ramsey Ridderikhoff earned her medical degree from the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. Lauren is a Family Physician at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and resides in Frankfort, KY, with her husband, David, and two children, Cameryn and Bailey.


Elaine Alford is living in Singapore while teaching second grade students at the Invictus International School.

Aaron Blackshaw and Lauren Deasy '14 were married on August 19, 2017 in Charleston. Aaron earned his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2016, and is an Emergency Medicine Resident at the University of Virginia. Lauren is a Family Services Manager for the Alzheimer's Association in Charlottesville, VA.

Covington Golden and Bradley Carson were married on July 22, 2017, in Greenville, SC. Covington is an Account Executive at ScanSource, Inc. in Greenville.

Jennifer Kist earned her master's degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in geospatial information systems. Jennifer works at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, as Senior Hydrographic Survey Technician.


Aaron Gruber married Chelsea Ellison on June 24, 2017. Aaron is a Practice Associate at Coastal Ear, Nose and Throat, on Pawley's Island, SC, and is working towards his M.B.A. at Southern Wesleyan University.

Shea Connell Jury and Jacob Jury '12 reside in Charlotte, NC. Jacob works at UNC-Charlotte as Assistant Softball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Shea has re-joined the Collegiate Services Division of Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment as a Marketing Coordinator.

Anna Eagerton Stoudenmire was promoted to Marketing and Administration Manager at Landmark Construction Company in Charleston, SC. Anna has been with Landmark for five years.

Haley Weerasinghe has been promoted to Associate Merchant International-Panties at Victoria's Secret in New York City.

Liza Wood is Assistant Director of the Center for Excellence in Peer Education and Academic Experience at the College of Charleston. She holds a master's degree from Maastricht University in the Netherlands in sustainabilty science and policy, and a master's degree in organic farming and food production systems from Newcastle University in England.


Janis Dabbs graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in May 2017.

Thomas Horton graduated from the University of Southern California with his M.F.A. in film and television production in May 2017. He is a Networking Casting Assistant for Comedy at CBS Networks in Los Angeles.

Nori Johnson is the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, SC.


Ross Drummond is an Events Planner at the University of South Carolina School of Law in Columbia.

Colbie Errico is an Associate Account Executive at Ketchum Public Relations in Washington, D.C.

Melissa Jacobs will present at the National Communications Association's annual conference and the Pop Culture Association in the South's annual conference. Melissa is a Teaching Fellow at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort.

Amanda Watts is earning an M.S. in physician assistant studies at the Medical University of South Carolina and expects to graduate in August 2018.


Melissa Jacobs will present at the National Communications Association's annual conference and the Pop Culture Association in the South's annual conference. Melissa is a teaching fellow at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort.


Alex Cottingham has joined The Harbor Entrepreneur Center in Charleston, SC, where she is TOW MOS (The One Who Masters Our Story), Alex handles internal communications and operations, event planning, and marketing. She is studying for her master's degree in communication from the College's Graduate School.

Nate Esterline is a Field Engineer for Schimenti Construction in New York City.

Holly Feller is studying for her doctorate in dentistry from the Medical University of South Carolina and expects to graduate in 2021.

Katherine Mendoza has been promoted to Assistant Director of Juvenile Diversion Services for the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office in Charleston, SC Katherine will assist in overseeing all diversion programs for Charleston and Berkeley Counties.

Diana Pilzer is attending Kuehne Logistics University in Germany for her M.S. in global logistics and supply chain management, and expects to graduate in 2019.

Lissie Stoughton married Brayden Alexander Reince on July 8, 2017, in Charleston. Lissie is pursuing a master's degree in veterinary and military social work through the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and works at the Humane Society of El Paso.

Maggie Ward of Charleston, SC, has been recognized as a VIP Member for 2017 by Strathmore's Who's Who Worldwide for her outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of publishing. Maggie is the Publishing and Marketing Assistant at The Local Palate Magazine which provides recipes and related stories from Charleston.


Caroline Coyle is the Collegiate Relations Coordinator for the Phi Mu Fraternity headquartered in Peachtree City, GA.

Patrice Drayton is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Marilyn's Secret, LLC, a company which has developed a mobile app exclusively for women. Marilyn's Secret is a community where women have the freedom to express themselves without judgement from parents, employers, friends and others. The company is based in Charleston.

Ashley Sylvester is a Recreation Specialist at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in North Charleston, SC.

Emily Torchiana will speak at the 2017 TEDxCharleston on October 18. Emily has emerged from the shadows of cyberbullying and suicide attempts to turn life's darkest moments into moments of meaning for others.
