Alumni Association Scholarships

For student leaders on campus

The Alumni Association has proudly offered scholarships since 1961. Some of our scholarships are open only to children and relatives of alumni, but others are open to all students. Scholarships are based on demonstrated leadership potential. These scholarships are open to incoming freshmen and current College of Charleston students.

Alumni Association Scholarships:

  • Society of the Alumni Scholarships: Formerly called the Alumni Association Scholarships, these scholarships have been awarded since 1961. These scholarships are named for one of the predecessors of the current Alumni Association: The Society of the Alumni founded in 1848.  These scholarships are funded by the College of Charleston Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment and are open to all students.
  • Willard A. "Billy" Silcox Endowed Alumni Scholarship: This scholarship was established in 2012 to honor Billy Silcox '65, by his children Elizabeth Silcox Phillips '96, Bill Silcox '89 and Chris Silcox '92 in recognition of his achievements as a tennis player, mentor, coach, avid fan and most dedicated volunteer. Billy Silcox is a past president of the College of Charleston Alumni Association and past member of the College of Charleston Board of Visitors and was awarded the 2011 Alumni Award of Honor from the Alumni Association. This scholarship is open to all students and is based on demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Kamla Kapur Mehra and Krishna Nandan Mehra Endowed Scholarship: This scholarship was established in 1997 by Dr. Rahul Mehra '83 to honor his parents, Kamla Kapur Mehra and Krishna Nandan Mehra and their love of education. This scholarship is awarded to a student with demonstrated leadership potential who graduated from Gaffney Senior High School in Gaffney, SC.
  • Carolyn Burroughs Muller '80 and Barlowe Muller Endowed Scholarship: Following a successful career in the insurance industry which she attributes in part to her education at the College and the connections she made with alumni throughout her career, Carolyn Burroughs Muller '80 and her husband, Barry, established this scholarship in 2016.  The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Loris High School (or any Horry County school) who held leadership positions in student organizations and has a verifiable financial need. Strong preference will be given to female students who wish to study business. The deadline is February 15.
