Carol Hannah Whitfield '07
Little did the native of Anderson, S.C. know she would become a star of one of cable television’s top competition reality shows, but that is exactly what happened to Carol Hannah Whitfield. As one of three finalists on the sixth season of Project Runway, she made a name for herself in the world of fashion design and in living rooms across America.
This fairy tale story began at the age of 7 when Carol Hannah began sewing dresses for her Barbie dolls and knew she wanted to be a designer. Instead of design school, she chose to come to the College of Charleston where she was a business major with minors in marketing and studio art.
Just months after graduating from the College, she entered Charleston Fashion Week’s Emerging Local Designers Competition and this experience left her with everything she needed to audition for Project Runway. Her obvious talent, composure and workmanship made quite an impression and she was chosen for the show. The only fly in the ointment was that she had to keep all of this a secret until the show aired almost a year later. The premier of the sixth season garnered 4.2 million viewers and Carol Hannah became a household name.
She ended the season as one of the top three finalists and as a new star in the field of fashion. Carol Hannah has opened a studio in Manhattan to do what she has loved since the age of 7 – designing dresses.
