July 2021

1977

Kim Madlinger Dempsey is retired from Beaufort County School District at the end of June. Ms. Dempsey looks forward to spending time with her two grandsons, Greyson Warren Dempsey and John Dempsey Nunes. She and her husband, Davy, reside in Beaufort, SC, and have a family farm on St. Helena Island, SC. Ms. Dempsey has generously given back to her alma mater for 18 consecutive years, supporting the CofC Fund and the Student Emergency Fund, and other programs.

1978

Jim Mackie is retired from the United States Navy. Lieutenant Mackie and his wife, Cecilia, reside in Lynn Haven, FL, and have a son.

1983

Marianna Alford Voiselle is an Assistant Principal at Southeast Bulloch Middle School. Ms. Voiselle is also on the Bulloch County Board of Education and a part-time Instructor at Georgia Southern University. She earned her MEd in elementary education from CofC and her EdS in reading education from Georgia Southern University. Ms. Voiselle resides in Statesboro, GA, with her husband, Victor. Ms. Voiselle frequently supports the College philanthropically, most recently donating to the restoration of the Sottile Theatre and the CofC Fund.

1987

Alan Johnson is the Vice President of Business Development and Director of Defense Programs for Commonwealth Computer Research. Mr. Johnson earned his MS in physics from Clemson University in 1989. He has two sons and resides in Charlottesville, VA. Mr. Johnson regularly donates to the School of Sciences and Mathematics, the Alumni Scholarship Fund, and the CofC Fund.

1990

Flashette Goss Johnson is an Instructional Coach for Berkeley County School District. Ms. Johnson earned her MEd in educational leadership from the University of Phoenix. She resides in Summerville, SC, with her husband, Bobby.

Brandon Pitcher is a Science Teacher for the Berkeley County School District and a Commander in the SC Army National Guard. Mr. Pitcher and his wife, Susan, live in Summerville, SC, with their son.

1992

Kristen Foster is a Senior Tax Analyst for Altium Packaging LP. Ms. Foster resides in Alpharetta, GA, and has two children.

David Scarborough began his new role as Assistant County Manager of Bertie County, NC, in April. Mr. Scarborough resides in Apex, NC, with his wife Cheryl Tatman Scarborough ’90. The couple has two children, Joshua and Abigail Scarborough ’23.

1993

Amy Estroff Leburn is self-employed as a Graphic Designer. Ms. Leburn resides in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, with her husband, Blair Leburn ’92, and their two children. The Leburns are generous donors to their alma mater, giving to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the CofC Fund.

Alex Lyons is the CEO and Lead Prosthetist Orthotist for Lyons Prosthetics & Orthotics. Dr. Lyons earned two post-graduate degrees from the University of Connecticut in prosthetics (1996) and orthotics (1997). He and his wife, Evelyn Milley Lyons ’93, reside in Conway, SC, and have three children. Their eldest daughter, Rebekah Lyons graduated in 2020.

1995

Denise Newland Mower is the Business Services Manager for the Girl Scouts of Utah. Ms. Mower and her husband, Robert, reside in Vineyard, UT, with their two daughters. Ms. Mower donates to the CofC Fund, supporting the College’s scholarships for students.

1996

Everett McInnis is the Associate Vice President of Budgeting and Payroll for CofC. Mr. McInnis married Michael C. Thomas in May. The couple resides in Charleston, SC. Mr. McInnis provides consistent philanthropic support to the College’s School of Business, the Accounting & Business Law Fund, and Cougar Pantry.

1998

Carter Andrews is an Account Executive for WP Engine and resides in Austin, TX. Ms. Andrews has donated to the CofC Fund and the Alumni Fund.

Alicia Lemler Gunst started a new job as the Admissions Director at James Island Christian School. Ms. Gunst and her husband, Ryan, reside in North Charleston, SC.

Tiffany Wells Nettles is the Owner of two online parenting resource websites, Columbia Mom and Charleston Moms. Ms. Nettles earned her MBA from the University of South Carolina in 2008. She and her husband, Rob, reside in Lexington, SC.

1999

Mackenzie Hutchinson Casteel is an Account Executive for Lexia Learning. Ms. Casteel earned her MA in teaching in 2005 from the University of South Carolina. She and her husband, Todd, and daughter, Harper, welcomed their second child and brother, Garret, in January 2020. The Casteel family resides in Greenville, SC.

Brandy James (MS ’00) joined the Charleston County Aviation Authority as Director of Finance with over 20 years of financial industry experience. Ms. James is also a Certified Public Accountant.

2000

Kathy Kellahan Anderson is an Assistant Principal for the Charleston County School District. Ms. Anderson earned her MEd in elementary administration from The Citadel (2004) and has plans to graduate with her EdS in educational leadership from The Citadel in 2022. She lives in Charleston, SC, with her daughter.

Tameka Pooser-Baker is the Owner of Career Matchmaker, LLC. She earned her MA in human resource management from Webster University in 2008. Ms. Pooser-Baker resides in West Columbia, SC, with her two children.

Jess Chenault Whitehead has been appointed as the Joan P. Brock Endowed Executive Director of the Old Dominion University Institute for Coastal Adaptation and Resilience. Ms. Whitehead has also been selected as a Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences Fellow. She resides in Norfolk, VA, with her husband, Matt, and their son. Ms. Whitehead is a generous donor to the College’s Physics Program, the CofC Fund, and the Honors College.

2002

Frederick Cooper is the Dean of Arts and Sciences at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. Mr. Cooper and his wife, Sandra, reside in Beaufort, SC.

Andy Steinhauser married Han Ngo Steinhauser in September. Mr. Steinhauser is a Financial Planner for Northwestern Mutual. The couple resides in Culver City, CA.

2003

Kristy King is the Director of Natural Areas Management for the New York City Parks Department. Ms. King earned her MA in conservation biology from Columbia University in 2008. She and her husband, Ravi Varma, live in Brooklyn, NY, with their daughter.

Jeanne Caine Meden is the Owner of Charleston Prestige Cleaners. Ms. Meden and her husband, Brian, reside in Charleston, SC, with their two children.

Luke Reasoner married Catherine Mecca Starnes in May. Mr. Reasoner is a Page Designer for The Philadelphia Inquirer. The couple resides in Norristown, PA.

Davin Wise is the Director of Sales for Frothy Beard Brewing Co. Mr. Wise resides in Goose Creek, SC, with his wife, Nikki, and their three children.

2005

Fant Jones is a Member Advocate for PURE Insurance. Mr. Jones resides in Charleston, SC, with his son, Rowan.

Dana Nunley Laycook is the Sales Director for CARFAX. Ms. Laycook and her daughter, Claire, reside in Ashburn, VA.

2006

Anderson Bowes is a Customer Success Manager, Dayforce Wallet, for Ceridian and resides in Glen Mills, PA.

Logan Somers is the Senior Regional Manager for Carlsberg Brewery based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Mr. Somers resides in Saint Petersburg, FL.

2007

Kate Guthrie is the Director of Development for The Norwalk Conservatory of the Arts. Ms. Guthrie resides in Ridgefield, CT, with her daughter, Pearl.

Vashaunta Harris is the Chief, Access and Equity, for the South Carolina Public Charter School District. Ms. Harris earned her MEd in secondary science education from Johns Hopkins University in 2010. She resides in Simpsonville, SC. Ms. Harris generously donates to the Student Emergency Fund.

2008

Ashley White Atkinson, and her husband, David, welcomed their first son, Kirby, on September 27, 2020. Ms. Atkinson is a Clinical Dietitian at the University of Colorado Hospital. The Atkinson family resides in Englewood, CO.

Danielle Smith Burke is the Director of Student Activities for Lewis University. Ms. Burke earned her MEd in higher education administration from Vanderbilt University (2010) and her MBA from Elmhurst University (2019). She lives in Chicago. Ms. Burke has consistently supported the College the past six years, donating to the Student Affairs Excellence Fund, the Student Emergency Fund, the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs Scholarship Fund, and the CofC Fund.

Courtney Clark Hill is the Collection Development Librarian for the Charleston County Public Library. Ms. Hill earned her MEd in school psychology from the College of William and Mary (2011) and her MLIS in library science from the University of South Carolina (2015). She and her husband, Jonathan, reside in Hanahan, SC.

Elliotte Quinn was re-elected as a board member of the Palmetto Project. Mr. Quinn is an Attorney for The Steinberg Law Firm. He earned his JD from Emory University. Mr. Quinn and his wife, Lyndsey Renken Quinn ’08, reside in Charleston, SC, with their three daughters. The Quinns have made gifts to the Alumni Fund and the CofC Fund.

Brady Quirk-Garvan has been elected Chair of the Palmetto Project Board of Directors. Mr. Quirk-Garvan is the Co-Owner of Money With a Mission and is in business development for Natural Investments. He resides in North Charleston, SC, with his wife and their daughter. The Quirk-Garvans are generous donors to the College, endowing a scholarship and donating to the Alumni Fund, the CofC Fund, and the Political Science Fund.

Sean Wilson was elected as a new board member for the Palmetto Project. Mr. Wilson is an Attorney at the Law Office of Sean M. Wilson, LLC. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Charleston School of Law, where he earned his JD in 2011. Mr. Wilson resides in Charleston, SC.

2009

Sara Peck was named the SC Independent School Association’s High School Teacher of the Year. Ms. Peck teaches English at University School of the Lowcountry and resides in Charleston, SC.

2010

Rose Christ was named to Crain’s Notable LGBTQ Leaders and Executives List. Ms. Christ is the Senior Principal of Cozen O’Connor’s public strategies group. She is president of Stonewall Democratic Club of NYC, a member of the Young Professionals Steering Committee of the NY Building Congress, and a newly appointed member of the Queens District Attorney’s LGBT Criminal Justice Task Force. She resides in New York City.

Mary Maxwell is a Senior Fundraising Program Manager for Avalon Consulting Group and resides in Southwest Harbor, ME.

JT Timms recently completed their MSW at Boston College and now works with adults doing narrative therapy as an Outpatient Therapist at Massachusetts General Brigham Salem Hospital.

2012

Derek Fronabarger ’11 and Ashley Moore ’11 moved to Washington, D.C. in 2015. Mr. Fronabarger previously worked at the White House under the Joining Forces Initiative in the office of Former First Lady, Michelle Obama. He is now the Director of Government Affairs for the Wounded Warrior Project. Ms. Moore graduated from George Washington University with her Master’s in professional counseling and now works with children at a local high school. The couple met in a CofC sculpting class in 2011 and now they spend their days boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Their son, Sebastien, was born in December 2019 and the family resides in Silver Spring, MD. The couple support scholarships to their alma mater through gifts to the Alumni Fund and the CofC Fund.

Jade Dilley Geary graduated in May from the University of South Carolina (UofSC) with her Doctorate of Education in curriculum and instruction with an educational technology focus. Dr. Geary also earned her MLIS from UofSC in 2015. She is an Instructional Designer for George Mason University. Dr. Geary resides in Alexandria, VA, with her husband, Chris.

Susie Bush Moore is a Publishing Assistant and Writer for the Alexandria Living Magazine. Ms. Moore resides in Alexandria, VA, with her husband, Matthew.

Candice Ulmer is a Clinical Research Chemist for the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in Atlanta. Ms. Ulmer earned her PhD in chemistry from the University of Florida in 2016.

2013

Abigail Frye is the Lead Event Planner for Patrick Properties Hospitality Group and resides in Mount Pleasant, SC. Ms. Frye provides philanthropic support to the College’s Alumni Fund and CofC Fund.

Sarah Hillman is an Associate Attorney for Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP. Ms. Hillman earned her JD from Duquesne University in May. She resides in Pittsburgh.

Shelley Ortega is the Associate Social Manager for HBO Max and resides in Santa Monica, CA.

Shantell Gant Williams is an Accounts Specialist for Comcast. Ms. Williams resides in North Charleston, SC, with her husband, Javon, and their children.

2014

Jacoby Hinton is an Artist who specializes in figurative art. Mr. Hinton resides in Milpitas, CA, with his dog, Champ.

2015

Gabrielle Perry is one of nine students in the first allied health program at Tulane University. Ms. Perry is studying anatomic pathology with plans to graduate with her MS from Tulane University in December. She is an Instructor for the university’s school of medicine and resides in New Orleans.

Leah Theoharidis is a Green Coffee Buyer and Quality Control Manager for Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters based in Brewster, MA. In 2020, Ms. Theoharidis earned her master’s in coffee economics and science from the University of Trieste in Italy. She resides in Somerville, MA.

2017

Kyra Mathis is an Early Head Start Mental Health/Disabilities Specialist for the South Carolina Association of Community Action Partnerships, Inc. Ms. Mathis earned her MSW from the University of South Carolina in May. She resides in North Augusta, SC.

Samantha Maziejka is a Business Operations Associate for ColoWrap in Raleigh, NC. Ms. Maziejka is studying law at Elon University with plans to graduate in 2023. She has generously donated to the College the past four years, supporting the Classics Fund, the Hospitality and Tourism Management Fund, the Alumni Fund, and the Athletic Fund.

Kate Cartland Willingham is an Associate Manager for Activist Artists Management and resides in Nashville, TN.

2018

Dawson Acorn is a Sales and Operations Assistant for Thom Browne in New York City.

Carlos Bennett is a Financial Planner/Agent for New York Life and resides in Winter Park, FL.

Francesca Howard is a Senior Success Specialist for Evolve Vacation Rental Network and resides in Denver.

Nicole Popp is an ESG Account Executive for Dix & Eaton. Ms. Popp earned her MS in sustainable business from the University of Miami in May. She resides in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

Nick Rodriguez self-produces his own podcast, “The Nick Rodriguez Podcast,” where he interviews high-achieving individuals in sports. He resides in Norcross, GA.

2020

Jen Shiner Collins is a Teacher with Berkeley County School District. Ms. Collins resides in Summerville, SC, with her husband, Paul Brown, and her son.

Caroline Greenblatt is a Summer Teacher for the Hockaday School in Dallas. Ms. Greenblatt is studying English, literature, and writing at the University of Virginia with plans to graduate with her MA in 2023. She has donated to the Student Emergency Fund.

Julia Howard is studying at Life University with plans to earn her Doctor of Chiropractic in 2024. Ms. Howard resides in Marietta, GA.

Joe Queen is a Veteran Employment Counselor for the Palmetto Warrior Connection at Palmetto Goodwill. The Palmetto Goodwill Open will be held October 4 at Oak Point Golf Course. Mr. Queen and his wife, Maggie, reside in Summerville, SC.

Grace Samuelson is a News Associate for CBS News in New York City.

Meghan Smith resides in Charleston, SC, and graduated from MUSC with her MPH in epidemiology in May.
