October 2021

1962

David O. Whitten is a professor emeritus of Auburn University. Dr. Whitten earned his MA in economics from the University of South Carolina in 1963 and his PhD in economics from Tulane University in 1970. He wrote the forward to “Teacher to Parent”, a collection of Moultrie News columns by Jody Stallings ’92 in August 2021. Dr. Whitten resides on Sullivan’s Island, SC, with his wife, June Pop Fischer.

1975

Jack Griffith is the new Vice President and Branch Director for Upstream Investment Partners in Columbia, SC. He is a loyal donor to his alma mater, making gifts each year to the Cougar Club to support Athletics.

1977

Gerilyn Graham Leland is a Teacher at Cario Middle School in Mount Pleasant, SC. Ms. Leland and her husband, Allston, reside in McClellanville, SC, and have two children and two grandchildren. She generously gave to the Alumni Fund last year.

1981

Michael Beal has been selected for inclusion in the 28th Edition of The Best Lawyers in America® for his work in bankruptcy, creditor-debtor rights/insolvency, and reorganization law. Mr. Beal was also selected for Bet-the-Company Litigation. He is an Attorney and the Head of the insolvency practice at Beal, LLC, and resides in Columbia, SC.

1984

Bobby Burg is the Chief Supply Chain Officer for Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits. He earned his MBA from Queens College in 1992. He and his wife, Belinda, reside in Weston, FL. Mr. Burg has been extremely generous in supporting the CofC Fund.

1986

Debbie Smith Jordan retired from the South Carolina public school system after 34 years. Ms. Jordan now works with FACES, Inc., where she brings international teachers to SC schools. She is also an adjunct professor at Columbia College. Ms. Jordan resides in Ridgeway, SC, with her husband, Jeff.

1989

Jennie Stephens ’89 (MPA ’94) was featured on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt to create awareness around the work that the Center for Heirs’ Property Preservation is doing in Bucksport, SC. Dr. Stephens is the CEO of the Center and was interviewed as part of a story on how FEMA is changing its policies to allow people living on inherited land (heir’s property), who couldn’t prove ownership, to apply for critical disaster aid. Dr. Stephens earned her MPA from CofC in 1994. She resides in North Charleston, SC.

1992

Tricia Baxter Barrett is a Sales Associate at Croghan’s Jewel Box. Her husband, Will Barrett ’91, works for Boise Cascade. The couple resides in Charleston, SC, with their two children. The Barretts have made gifts to the College every year since 2002, supporting the Cougar Club and the Alumni Fund.

Deedra Lee is a Teacher for Richland County School District One. Ms. Lee earned her MEd in divergent learning from Columbia College in 2005 and studied administrative leadership for teaching and learning at Walden University. She lives in Columbia, SC, with her daughter, Jhurni.

1993

James Barton is a Teacher at Fort Dorchester High School. Mr. Barton received the Order of the Arrow Distinguished Service Award in 2020 from the Boy Scouts of America. His daughter, Abigail, started at CofC this fall and plans to graduate in 2025. The Barton family resides on Wadmalaw Island, SC.

Adrienne Shaw Frizzell is the owner of the Frizzell Allstate Agency located in North Charleston, SC. Ms. Frizzell earned her MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2006. She resides in Charleston, SC with her husband, Charlie.

1997

Heather Crosby is a History Professor at the College and resides in Charleston, SC. Professor Crosby has been a consistent benefactor of her alma mater, supporting the CofC Fund, the Alumni Fund, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the History Fund.

1999

Natalie Gamble Johnson is the Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Medicine. Dr. Johnson earned her Doctor of Health Administration from MUSC in May. She was the 2020 recipient of the MUSC Earl B. Higgins Achievement in Diversity Award and the 2021 recipient of the Delta Sigma Theta North Charleston Alumnae Chapter Community Service for Physical and Mental Health. Dr. Johnson and her husband, Allen, have three children and reside in Charleston, SC.

2001

Beth Hamilton is an Attorney for Smith, Cox & Associates, LLP, and resides in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Daniel Waller is a Project Manager 2, Default Servicing, for Wells Fargo in Fort Mill, SC. Mr. Waller earned his MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2014. He and his wife, Elizabeth, reside in Indian Land, SC, and have a son, Waites.

2002

Andy Steinhauser is an Inside Sales Manager for VinFast US and resides in Culver City, CA, with his wife, Han Ngo.

2003

Erin Armstrong Parker is a Mental Health Therapist at her private practice, Erin Armstrong Therapy. Ms. Parker earned her MSW from the University of South Carolina in 2015. She and her husband, Jay Parker ’00 reside in Charleston, SC, with their two sons, John and William.

Wilma Simpson, a former women’s basketball player at the College, was inducted into the 2021 Summerville High School Athletic Hall of Fame and her jersey was retired. Ms. Simpson is a Warehouse Specialist for Motion Industries and resides in Taylors, SC.

2005

St. Claire Clinkscales is a Patrol Officer First Class for the Town of Mount Pleasant in SC. Ms. Clinkscales was selected as the Mount Pleasant Police Department Rookie of the Year for 2020. She earned her certificate as a Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer in 2020 from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. She resides in Charleston, SC.

Josh Martina is the Vice President of D. Stagnaro & Co., Inc. Mr. Martina earned his JD from the Charleston School of Law in 2013. He and his wife, Kathryn Stagnaro Martina ’06, live in Charleston, SC, with their two children, Harper and Cooper.

Beth Gross is the Customer Success Manager for Castlight Health based in San Francisco. Ms. Gross earned her MS in exercise science and wellness from Old Dominion University in 2007. She married Tim Thornton in October 2020 and the couple resides in Norfolk, VA.

2006

Gwen McGaughey Hoefer is the Director of Stewardship and Development for St. Peter’s Parish in Kansas City, MO. Ms. Hoefer and her husband, Matt, reside in Kansas City, MO, with their three children.

Vincent Adam Paul is the CEO of 7 Cinematics, which won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing Team for a Multiple Camera Daytime Non-Fiction Program for the television series “American Music Spotlight.” He has worked with notable clients such as Jimmy Buffett, Dead & Company, Weezer, Machine Gun Kelly, Kanye West, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Mr. Paul now resides in Greensboro, NC.

2007

Justin Pittman is a Senior Sales Development Representative for Crowley Logistics. Mr. Pittman resides in Charleston, SC, and has one daughter.

2008

Eric Sullivan is the Owner and LGBTQ+ Inclusion Consultant for Be Proud with Eric, where he helps companies level up their LGBTQ+ diversity, equity, and inclusion. Mr. Sullivan earned his MA in LGBTQ+ psychology from Antioch University in 2010. He resides in Charleston, SC. In 2020, he made a gift to the Lowcountry LGBTQ Documentation Project.

2009

Megan Manthey Richey is a Personal Trainer and the Owner of Manthey Momentum Sports Performance. Ms. Richey married Brent Richey in 2015. The couple resides in Ferndale, WA, with their daughter, Skylar.

2011

Kuleigh Beckett Baker is the Planner for the City of North Augusta, SC. Ms. Baker and her husband, Alex Baker ’14, live in North Augusta, SC, with their daughter, Rooney. The Bakers are prolific donors to their alma mater, providing support for the Alumni Fund, the School of the Arts, and the Student Emergency Fund.

Dil Patel is a Neuro Radiologist at Savannah Chatham Imaging in Savannah, GA. He recently completed his fellowship training in Neuro Radiology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), which was preceded by residency training at Loyola University in Chicago, IL where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Patel earned his MD from MUSC in 2015. Dr. Patel has contributed to the CofC Fund and the Alumni Fund.

2012

Andrea Harris-Long (MPA) resides in Boston with her husband, Sam, and is the Senior Land Use Planner for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.

AsheLynne Jordan is an Implementations Consultant for BlackLine based in Woodland Hills, CA. Mr. Canty married his wife, Cleo, in December 2020. The couple resides in Hampton, GA.

Rachel Lee is an Associate Attorney for Smith Robinson Law. Ms. Lee earned her JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2019. She resides in West Columbia, SC.

2013

Marc Difronzo is a Physician Assistant for QC Kinetix in Mount Pleasant, SC. Mr. Difronzo earned his master’s in physician assistant studies from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 2017. He resides on John’s Island, SC.

Stephanie Rhodes is the Vice President of Finance and Business Operations for FURTHER in Charleston, SC. Ms. Rhodes earned her MBA from the University of South Carolina in 2020. She has consistently supported the College with gifts to the German Program Fund, the Schottland Scholars, the Honors College, the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs, and the CofC Fund.

2014

Elizabeth Berry is an Interior Designer for Visible Proof. Ms. Berry earned her MFA in designer: interior environments from Virginia Commonwealth University in May. She resides in Richmond, VA.

Tatiana Donald is the Brand Communication Manager for L’Oreal USA and resides in New York City.

Maddi Edwards-Bednar has been promoted to Assistant Dean for Transfer Students at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Ms. Edwards-Bednar earned her MEd in college student affairs from the same university in 2018. She and her husband, Parker Bednar ’14, reside in Edison, NJ. They recently made a generous donation to CofC’s Religious Studies Fund.

2015

Sarah Bilbrey is the new Public Relations Manager for Casper and resides in New York City.

2016

Aubrey Hendrixson works in Administrative Management for Garnet Auto Group and resides in West Chester, PA.

Alex Watson is a Sales Representative for United Rentals and resides in St. Petersburg, FL. He has generously contributed to the CofC Alumni Fund.

2017

Hope Reilly Longe (MA) is the Communications Coordinator for the Mathematical Association of America. Ms. Longe resides in Arlington, VA, with her husband, Edward Longe ’17. In 2020, the Longes supported the Alumni Association with a gift.

Tori Perano is the Owner, CEO, and Event Director of Passera Events. Ms. Perano received “Best of Weddings 2021” from The Knot, an annual award that recognizes the top wedding vendors across the country. She resides in Conway, SC.

2018

Hope Pond married Garrett Sloan in Charleston, SC, in September. Ms. Pond is a Mortgage Loan Officer for Cornerstone Home Lending. The couple resides in Fort Mill, SC.

2019

Taite Daisey earned her JD from the Delaware Law School at Widener University in May. Ms. Daisey is now practicing chiropractic medicine at the National University of Health Sciences with plans to graduate with her doctorate in 2024. She resides in St. Petersburg, FL.

Aaron Handelman is a Senior Account Manager for Audicus in New York City.

Jack Parker is an Area Manager for Amazon and resides in Brookline, MA.

2020

Dan Colella is a Post-Production Assistant and is studying film and television production at Loyola Marymount University with plans to graduate with his MFA in 2023. His graduate film, Refraction, was selected as a semi-finalist at the Burbank International Film Festival. Mr. Colella resides in Los Angeles.

Julia Messinger is an Artist for Julsmess Art and resides in Narragansett, RI.

2021

Katie Horton is the new Executive Assistant for Edge Beverage in Phoenix, AZ.

Patrick McCabe is a SOC Analyst for Cyber Guards USA and resides in Cordova, TN. Mr. McCabe began giving back to the College as an undergraduate, donating to Swipe Away Student Hunger. As an alumnus, he continues to support his alma mater with a gift to the Student Emergency Fund earlier this year.
