September 2022

1975

Bill Stone, of Jacksonville, FL, recently joined the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. Mr. Stone was the first full scholarship tennis player at the College and is now a member of the College of Charleston Athletic Hall of Fame. Upon graduating, he received both the Bishop Robert Smith Award and the Willard A. Silcox Award. Mr. Stone earned his JD from the University of South Carolina in 1978, became Board Certified as a Civil Trial Lawyer in 1989, and has spent the last 43 years in a very active trial practice. He has been named to both the Florida Super Lawyers and the Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Stone and his wife, Janan, have four children and four grandchildren. He is a generous donor to our alma mater, giving most recently to the Silcox Tennis Fund Endowment and supporting both Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams.

1983

Tina Marshall-Bradley is an Academic Coordinator for Walden University, based in Minneapolis, MN. Ms. Mashall-Bradley has two children and resides in Lexington, NC, with her husband, George Bradley ’92.

1984

Dan Gentry is among the newest members of the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. He is President and CEO of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. He earned his MHA from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1990 and his PhD in health administration from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1996. Dr. Gentry resides in Washington, D.C., and Pensacola, FL, with his husband, Patrick Dunn, and their dog Bentley. He is a generous donor to our alma mater, giving to the CofC Fund, the Student Emergency Fund, and the Greek Leadership Fund, among other programs. Dr. Gentry is also an Annual Sponsor of the Alumni Association at the Friend level.

1987

Rita Hammond is a Financial Consultant for NowCFO, based in Salt Lake City, UT. Ms. Hammond earned her MBA from The Citadel. She has three daughters, including Erin Carroll ’19, and resides in Daniel Island, SC.

Chanle Henry Jackson, of Indian Land, SC, is a Business Process and Implementation Manager for Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., and one of the newest members of the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. Ms. Jackson earned an MBA from Queens University in Charlotte, NC, in 1993. She has a professional certification in Process Risk and Oversight from the University of North Carolina. Last year, Ms. Jackson established a scholarship for the N.E. Miles Early Childhood Development Center. She is a Cistern Society member, providing for future students with a planned gift.

1989

Nikki Gordon Bowie is the Safety Program Manager for the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission. Ms. Bowie was named Life Member for the United States Lifesaving Association as the first person from South Carolina to receive this award and only the fourth female. She and her husband, Kevin Bowie ’92, reside in Charleston, SC, with their son, Morgan.

Kelli Garrett is the Founder of Garrett Ventures Group and the owner of several successful businesses, including a real estate rental portfolio, a residential and commercial rehabbing business, and a hard money lending business called Rehab Wallet. In June, Ms. Garrett and the Managing Director of her business, alumna Angela Dunn ’89, met Shaquille O’Neal when speaking at the Multifamily Investor Nation Conference in Charlotte, NC. Both alumnae played on the Women’s Basketball Team at the College. Ms. Garrett is a generous annual donor to our alma mater, giving to the Alumni Fund, the CofC Fund, Women’s Basketball, the Cougar Club, and the Student Emergency Fund in recent years. She is also a new Board Member and Annual Sponsor of the Alumni Association, supporting programs and events for the College throughout the year. Ms. Garrett resides in Mount Pleasant, SC, with her wife, Sunshine.

1991

Woodward Middleton is Market Executive and Managing Director of Bank of America Private Bank in Palm Beach, Florida. While at the College, he majored in political science and was a member of Student Alumni Associates and Kappa Alpha Order. Mr. Middleton is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He resides in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with his wife Michelle and has two children Woody Middleton ’19 and Clay.

1999

Keir Majarrez is the President of Majarrez & Associates, LLC, in San Diego, CA.

2000

Jessica Minor is the new Chair of the Education Department at Sincalir Community College in Dayton, OH. Dr. Minor has been a Professor in American sign language interpreter education at Sinclair for the past 18 years and has served as the Interim Chair of the Education Department for the past year. She earned her MA in deaf education from Gallaudet University in 2003 and her EdD in leadership for organizations from the University of Dayton in 2022. Dr. Minor and her husband, James, reside in Oakwood, OH, with their children Jay and Joy.

Jenny Wondracek is the Director of the Law Library and a Professor of Legal Research and Writing at Capital University Law School. Ms. Wondracek earned her JD from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 2003, and later her MLIS from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, in 2006. She resides in Hillard, OH.

2004

Elizabeth Berry is the Manager of Employee Wellbeing for Hawaii Pacific Health. Ms. Berry earned her doctorate of nursing practice from Capella University in 2021. She is President of the Board of Directors at non-profit Hawaii Yoga Institute. Ms. Berry resides in Honolulu.

Tom McCarty is honored to have been named in Forbes for the second year in a row as one of the Top Financial Security Professionals. In 2021, Mr. McCarty was named #186 and this year was named #1. He is a Financial Advisor for New York Life and Eagle Strategies. Mr. McCarty resides in Mount Pleasant, SC, with his wife, Beth, and their three children, Ava, Patrick, and Charlie.

2005

Lauren Sneath Cantwell is the new Engagement Manager for McKinsey & Company in Pittsburgh, PA.

Kimberly Brant Space and her husband, Martin, welcomed their first child, Brooks Austin Space in August. The Space family resides in Hanahan, SC.

2007

Brianne Steiner Libby is a new member of the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. Ms. Libby is an Assistant Public Defender in the 2nd Circuit Public Defender’s Office in Aiken, SC. She earned her JD from the Charleston School of Law in 2010. Ms. Libby married her husband, Chris, in July 2021 in Augusta, GA. She has served as President of the Aiken/Augusta CofC Club and is a generous annual donor to our alma mater, giving most recently to support scholarships through the CofC Fund. The couple resides in Aiken, SC.

2008

Ben Clary recently started his own law practice Chattahoochee Injury Law, LLC, a boutique injury practice that specializes in personal injury. Mr. Clary resides in Atlanta, with his wife, Mary Kelly Stribling Clary ’07, and their three children, Ford, Mae, and Boone.

Stephanie Christensen Francisco is a Grant Project Manager for Volkert, Inc. Ms. Francisco earned her MS in rural sociology from Auburn University in 2013. She married her husband, Jim, in April 2014, and they have two children, Evangeline Amelia and Sullivan Christensen. The Francisco family resides in Montgomery, AL.

2009

Kate Burroughs married Nicholas Scharfeld in April of this year. Ms. Burroughs is the Adult Drug Court Coordinator for the Charleston County Probate Court.

Geoff Pallay (MPA ’09) is the Editor in Chief of Ballotpedia, a digital encyclopedia of American politics and the nation’s premier resource for unbiased information on elections, politics, and policy. Mr. Pallay also earned his certificate in urban and regional planning from CofC in 2011. He and his wife, Megan, reside in Charleston, SC, and have two children, Cameron and Natalie. Mr. Pallay has recently donated to the Men’s Basketball Team through the Cougar Athletic Fund.

2010

CJ Tully is a Consulting Manager for Smartsheet. Mr. Tully and his wife, Madeline, reside in Southborough, MA.

2011

Bo Crouch joins Lynch Cracraft Wealth Management of Raymond James as a Financial Advisor in Charleston, SC. Mr. Crouch resides in Mount Pleasant, SC with his wife, Megan Parkerson ’07, and their son, Cooper. He has previously donated to the Cougar Club.

Nicole Trevisan is a Project Intake Analyst for Randstad in Atlanta. Ms. Trevisan celebrated 10 years with the company in August 2022. She is currently studying to achieve her yellow belt six sigma certification for process improvement.

2012

Caleb Hartsell is the Lead Forestry Technician for the U.S. Forest Service in Flagstaff, AZ.

2015

Caroline Snell Murray, of Leesburg, VA, recently started her own business, Virtually Possible, a customizable Virtual Assistant business in which they help business owners manage tasks to give them some of their free time back. Ms. Murray earned her master’s of science in elementary reading and literacy K-12 from Walden University in 2018. In January 2021, she married her husband, James, and the couple resides in Hanahan, SC, with their dog, Murphy.

Blake Scarborough is a Teacher at Saluda High School and earned her MEd in administration and supervision from Clemson University in 2020. Ms. Scarborough resides in Lexington, SC.

2017

Fran Miller Knudsen (MBA ’18) opened her second coffee shop, Blum, on Meeting Street in Charleston, SC this month. Ms. Knudsen’s first shop is located in Columbia, SC. Blum is a botanically-minded and offers curated tea, coffee, and pastries. Ms. Knudsen resides in Columbia, SC, with her husband, Spencer.

Jake Peters accepted a new role as Sales Executive with Abbott Diagnostics in February and resides in Jersey City, NJ.

Manuela Chaverra Zapata earned her MEd in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina, Aiken, in May. Ms. Zapata was named the graduate student of the year in 2022 and Teacher of the Year in 2018. She married Bruno Rosenbaum in August 2021 and the couple welcomed their first child, Isabella Leah Rosenbaum, in January. Ms. Zapata and her family reside in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Shabria Williams was recently awarded a grant from the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation for her studies at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine-Carolinas. Ms. Williams earned her master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Chatham University in 2021. She previously worked as a Laboratory Program Advisor for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Ms. Williams resides in Aiken, SC.

2018

Chase Lefort is the newest Pastor of East Village Chapel in Oak Ridge, TN. Pastor Lefort earned his master of divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. He resides in Tennessee.

2020

Hannah Angus is a Professional Development Coordinator for Kelley Drye & Warren in New York City.

Charlotte Hay is a Front Office Assistant at LowCountry Kids Pediatric Dentistry and resides in Mount Pleasant, SC.

2021

Jonathan Evans works for the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance and is studying at American University with Plans to graduate with his MBA in 2024. He resides in Charlotte, NC.

Ashlin Potterfield and Cameron Marvin were married in August. Ms. Potterfield is an Administrative Assistant for 167 Raw. The couple resides in Charleston, SC.

Rachel Naugle is a Sales Associate at Etiquette Boutique in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Jason Kekacs is a Financial Professional for Equitable Advisors and resides in Dallas, TX.
